Tag

A tag is a small "sacrificial" patch of knitting used to secure the last loop produced in a bind off. This prevents the last loop from unravelling as the piece is handled (e.g., while it is being transported to a separate room for post-processing). During post-processing, the tag is unravelled, the last loop is tied off, and excess yarn is trimmed.

A typical tag will be TODO courses high and TODO wales wide.
