The Kniterate is an automated knitting machine that was launched on kickstarter in 2017 and came on the market in 2019 as scaled-down alternative to existing industrial knitting machines, such as those produced by the companies Shima Seiki and Stoll. Rather than serving the factory market, its target audience is small businesses and artists.
Knitout, the lab's machine-independent file format, has existing support for programming the Kniterate—with extensions tailored towards the machine's specifications and a backend for converting knitout to Kniterate's file format, k-code (.kc).
